According to Nationwide house prices are up 10.5% on April last year

The UK’s largest building society claims house prices rose 1% in April pushing the annual rise into double figures for the first time since June 2007. The average house price in the UK now stands at £167,802 according to their figures.

Originally they showed a 0.7% increase for March but have since revised that figure to also be 1%.

They do still put prices at 10% below the peak though that was reached in October 2007.

The society said the three-monthly rate of growth, which gives a better guide to the underlying market trends, showed a 1.1% rise in prices, down from a 1.5% rise in March.

This contradicts figures from Land Registry who claim that prices dropped 0.6% in March following a drop of 0.3% in February. However they do agree on an annual increase if not by quite as much with a rise of 7.5%.
