A few days ago I attended the GP Wizard karting competition at Teamworks Karting in Birmingham.
This was the second year running that the event has been held (both times at this venue) and this year I actually got the drive. Last year I only spectated as I was nursing a kidney stone but that’s another story.
The event started life last year as a friendly competition between F1 bloggers and forum members.
There were quite a few more competitors this year which meant that we ran the usual heats scoring system where the computer randomly selects starting positions for the grid and you score point based on your finish position in each heat.
I think there were six people from GP Wizard there and three made it to the grand final with me starting out in third place (for coming third overall on the leaderboard from the heats).
I lost one place and finished fourth overall but still first out of the GP Wizard bunch. Not bad considering it was only the third time I’ve been karting in my life.
Here’s a selection of photos from the evening. I’m in the black and red race suit with the black, orange and chequered helmet.
