Knee Injury

by Wayne on 10 July, 2010 · 0 comments

Due to a knee injury I am unable to take part in the 10 mile run tomorrow that I have been sponsored for.

I have suffered with problems with both of my knees which prevented me from doing many training runs. I was not going to let this stop me but I attempted an easy jog yesterday and my right knee only lasted 8 minutes before becoming painful. Apart from this attempt I have not done any running for weeks to rest the knee because this has happened the last few times I’ve tried to run. I had hoped that after this long period of rest it would be ok but unfortunately it’s not.

As a result I have decided that it would be foolish and a waste of time to attempt a 10 mile run.

I have been doing some cycling as fitness training in preparation for the run because this does not hurt my knees. As I have received sponsorship I do need to do something so I have decided to do a bike ride instead.

I am entering a 25 mile off road route on 17th July. The ride is an Evans Cycles “Ride It” event and is designed for riders that want to challenge themselves. It is the equivalent of a 60 mile road route. The route is suitable for those with off-road experience and a reasonable level of fitness and normally takes between 3 to 5 hours.

I don’t intend to take anywhere near as long as 5 hours and my target would be to beat the 3 hours.

House Prices Have Risen 10.5%

by Wayne on 6 May, 2010 · 0 comments

According to Nationwide house prices are up 10.5% on April last year

The UK’s largest building society claims house prices rose 1% in April pushing the annual rise into double figures for the first time since June 2007. The average house price in the UK now stands at £167,802 according to their figures.

Originally they showed a 0.7% increase for March but have since revised that figure to also be 1%.

They do still put prices at 10% below the peak though that was reached in October 2007.

The society said the three-monthly rate of growth, which gives a better guide to the underlying market trends, showed a 1.1% rise in prices, down from a 1.5% rise in March.

This contradicts figures from Land Registry who claim that prices dropped 0.6% in March following a drop of 0.3% in February. However they do agree on an annual increase if not by quite as much with a rise of 7.5%.
